Once again, Israel proved to the world that it is a murderous state that knows no limits in exercising state terrorism. Yesterday, the Freedom flotilla, an aid fleet sailing to Gaza, was viciously attacked and up to 19 unarmed activists were murdered in cold blood by Israeli forces. The flotilla was attacked at dawn when Israeli troops invaded one of the ships that was sailing in International water in an act of brutal piracy. Video footage showing armed troops descending from a helicopter and using live ammunition were circulating on the internet. Reports from the ship stated that the troops kept firing despite the white flag that was raised by the ship.
Israeli hasbara started straight away to whitewash their heinous crime. In fact, it started days ago when Israel declared that it will stop the fleet. Israel was claiming that there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza and that they do actually provide Gazans with what they need. There has been an intensive PR campaign on social media by Israel claiming that just before the flotilla leaves. Which is laughable given that Israel is the one that has placed the crippling seige (with complicity of the international community especially the Egyptian regime) that is causing a humanitarian crisis due to lack of food and medicine. In a rather moronic effort to demonise the activists on board the flotilla, Danny Ayalon, Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel, claimed on his facebook and twitter accounts that, “Members of flotilla shout Remember Khaybar Jews, Army of Mohammad is coming back”, thus tapping into the Islamophobia sentiment that prevails the Western World given many on board were Turkish.
Israeli officials claimed they were defending themselves against an invasion of Hamas and al-Qaeda supporters. In a classic twisting the truth act, Israeli soldiers claimed they acted to save their lives. The Jerusalem Post reported, A commando who participated in the raid said that the attack
“looked like the Ramallah lynch.” IDF said the activists had prepared to kill the soldiers”
Several Western media outlets, such as the BBC rushed to the defence of Israel spreading misleading information and echoing Israeli lies that claimed that activists started shooting first, which was latter slammed by numerous reports and videos that stated that the bullets were only shot by IDF soldiers. So now the Israeli line is, we encountered fierce resistance by activists who used knives and pipes to attack us.
Let’s be clear on this and call it by its real name. Cold blooded murder! It is not “clashes” as western media claim. This is an act of piracy committed by Israel in International water. Even if the Israeli story about pipes is true, the activists had the right to fight back against the armed soldiers who invaded the ships! Let’s remember that Israel killed over a thousand Palestinians less than two years ago and will not stop its atrocities. In fact, they are vowing to attack the aid ship that is sailing to Gaza as I’m writing!
An unnamed Israeli marine lieutenant told the radio in an interview that he expected an easy takeover of the ship, saying the Israeli forces would be “ready” for the Rachel Corrie, Reuters reported.
The whole world saw what is on board of the ships before they sailed. On board of the ships were more than 700 people, most of them from international non-governmental organisations, activists and people of various nationalities, religions and from all walks of life who were planning to deliver aid to besieged Gaza.
The ships were carrying about 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including medical aid, food, clothing, prefabricated homes, children’s playgrounds, stationery items, iron bars and cement.“There is not even a razor, knife or jackknife on board,” one of the organisers said, referring to the non-threatening nature of the cargo.
The people on board are still being held by Israeli authorities who are refusing to give a list of the killed. According to news sources, Some activists will be jailed while the rest will be deported. Israel tried to get the kidnapped people to sign a document saying he had “entered Israel” illegally. This is outrageous! The people who are trying to break the seige are being treated like criminals, while the real criminals who oppress Palestinians on a daily basis are being let free to attack the last vessel!
The international community’s response was so tame to say the least. While tens of thousands of people are rallying around the world demading Israel to be punished for its crimes, the security council gently “requests the immediate release of the ships as well as the civilians held by Israel.” and calling for “a prompt, impartial, credible and transparent investigation conforming to international standards.”
Let’s remember that this massacre was brought to us by the same state that committed, Deir Yassin, Jenin, Qana 1,2 and Gaza massacres to name a few. It is added to a long list of crimes that Israel committes everyday against the Palestinian people. It comes one day after media reports accusing Israel of children abuse inside its jails. lets also remember that Palestinians are resisting and fighting this injustice everyday with undying courage and a burning desire for freedom that inspires freedom fighters all over the world. Palestinian resistance and global solidarity with the will not die by this act of terrorism I’m sure! Viva Palestine!
I usually try not to re-publish articles, but write my own thoughts and commentary instead. However, I’m republishing this one because I thought that the subject has all elements of vicious capitalism dealing with a very basic necessity. Those people are getting sick from eating mud while the economy is growing well and the abundance of food in India. When I asked the person who tweeted the article (he is Indian) about it he wrote,
It’s a lack of political will, Infrastructure not in place. Delivery mechanisms missing. And the who-cares attitude together keeps a significant population hungry. To top it all, the most disgusting element about this episode: there is tonnes of food grain rotting in government warehouses.
It is food economics that rather store food till it rots to keep the prices high than to feed the hungry.
If this is not a case to overthrow capitalism, I don’t what is!
Children in Ganne have to eat dried mud and silica
“We live on a day-to-day basis,” Suraj says, as the faint sound of hammering echoes across the village. “What we earn is what we spend on our families in a day.”
In Ganne, just off the main road about an hour south of the city of Allahabad, this is a simple fact of life.
It is home to members of a poor tribal community, who live in small huts clustered around a series of shallow quarries.
Inside one of the huts sits a little girl called Poonam. She is three years old, and in the early stages of kidney failure.
Like many children in Ganne she has become used to eating bits of dried mud and silica, which she finds in the quarry. Tiny children chew on the mud simply because they are hungry – but it is making them ill.
When reports first emerged of children eating mud here local officials delivered more food and warned the villagers not to speak to outsiders. But Poonam’s father, Bhulli, is close to despair.
“What can I say,” he shrugs. “We can’t afford to eat properly, so how can I afford to buy medicines for her?”
“I am really worried about my daughter, but I don’t know what to do next. The poor need the government’s help – if we had it, we wouldn’t be in such a desperate state.”
People like Bhulli and Suraj make their money filling lorries with bits of rock. It takes about eight hours for five men to fill one load. They carry the stones up from the quarry in plastic washing-up bowls balanced on their heads.
One of the women in the village, Phulkari, approaches to tell us about her little boy.
“My son’s name is Suraj, and he’s started eating mud too,” she says. “What can we do? We eat the mud from the quarry when we feel hungry.”
“Where do we get the money?” she asks. “We usually eat food only once a day. Last night we went to bed without eating anything at all.”
The World Bank estimates that one third of all the very poorest people in the world live in India, and stories like those from Ganne have now inspired a national Right To Food campaign.
There have been protest rallies in the heart of Delhi, as the Indian parliament prepares to debate a new Food Security Bill. It will dictate how many people in the country get access to massively subsidised food grain.
There’s no doubt that India should be able to afford to feed its people. But the devil is in the detail.
“It’ll only cost the government about 1.2% of GDP to universalize a system of giving food for all, cheap food for all,” says Kavitha Srivastava, the national coordinator of the Right to Food campaign.
“They can do it, if they have the political will. It’s prioritising – where do you want to put the money?”
“We think it should go in building people’s nutrition levels. You can’t have a country which is weak, which is hungry, which is anaemic. How can you have a nation like this?”
Now the government seems to be prepared to accept a new way of defining poverty, which will increase the number of people below the poverty line by more than 100 million to about 372 million.
If international poverty standards were used, the number would be much higher still – and some Indian economists believe it should be.
But whichever figure is used, the poverty line feels like a rather fictitious divide because feeding more than a billion people is a massive logistical exercise. Vast quantities of food provided by the state go missing every day because of corruption and theft.
“Food ought to be a right,” says Dr Kaushik Basu, the Chief Economic Advisor at India’s Ministry of Finance. “And I believe this is a movement in the correct direction.”
“But what worries me at times is that we’re being too glib and quick about the delivery mechanism.”
Official estimates are that right across the country 75% of subsidised grain does not make it to the intended target in villages like Ganne.
“So if you simply throw money at this problem, you’ll have to throw four times the amount to get the result you want,” says Dr Basu. “And the government of India can’t afford that. The budget will go bust.”
In other words, the delivery system needs to be reformed as well – and corrupt local officials need to be taken to task. There is a long way to go.
Jean Dreze, a highly respected Belgian-born academic who has worked in India for many years, points out that the current debate is only about the most basic levels of food intake.
Packiam Dorai says she is regularly turned away from the fair price shops.
“For a family of five to have reasonably good nutrition, nothing like meat or fish or any such thing, but just one egg per person per day, one banana, some dhal, some vegetables, a reasonably balanced diet – it would cost more than 200 rupees ($4.4; £3) per family per day,” he says.
And that is far more than the amounts being discussed at the moment.
It is a sobering reminder that feeding India is a daunting challenge – the government knows it, and the prime minister says it must be a priority. But the Right to Food Campaign insists they are not doing enough.
The Indian economy continues to grow at impressive speed, and there is no shortage of food in the country. It just isn’t reaching the people who need it most, on a consistent basis.
So in Ganne they continue to eat mud. And without finding a solution here in India, the world will come nowhere near the targets it has set itself for reducing global poverty.
I laugh, I cry, I wish, I pray..
In my bed I toss and turn.
I crave, I long, I fall, I rise..
I hope, I ache.. I crash and burn.
I count the time by days,
cos seconds drive me crazy.
The wait is so bitter,
yet somehow, it’s so sweet!
I sigh at every song,
for every line is you.
And when I’m alone,
I swallow my sighs…
They burn my chest
and then turn into tears.
Sometimes I wonder,
how did an exeption come through a cliched advice,
“Seek and you shall find”…
and I found you!
My friends ask, “what do you see in your future?”
“I don’t know… I never plan!”
and I know it’s a lie…. cos I want to be with you,
but it’s my sweet little secret…
my pearl, that I hide in the shell that is my heart!
When our town is fast asleep,
and there is no one in sight..
Like a love sick insomniac,
I chase away my sleep
and write your name with a thousand stars!
While everyone dreams closed eyed,
I dream wide awake..
I tell a falling star,
This is what I want!
To forget the whole world in your joyful presence,
To fly so high on a kiss.
To breathe the same air you breathe,
To melt away in your embrace.
To lose myself a million times in your eyes,
as we spend a lazy afternoon.
To never get tired of confessing what you mean to me,
and how the world turns around..
When we are together!

………. وبدعمكم أستمر
He takes off his shoes and walks into the hall holding his breath…. His eyes move around the adorned ceiling.. He hesitates to touch the beautifully carved flowers on the walls… He ordered these special stones himself .. Everything needs to be perfect…. The rich aroma of Oud fills up his lungs…
“The smell of the fresh paint is finally fading away”, he says that while rubbing the carpet with his toes to check how soft and thick it is.. People must feel comfortable while worshiping the Almighty… He gets misty eyed as he sees the water fountain surrounded with the pink roses he carefully selected from the best nurseries in the world..”It’s beautiful”.. He always chooses the best!
Everything is perfect as he planned… It even surpassed his expectations.. This mosque was his dream… This is the highest form of his devotion to Allah.. there is nothing more honourable than building the house of God.. And he finally got it! As he walks out of the building, he has a quick chat to the contractor,
– I’m pleased to tell you that it will be ready in a week. The contractor says with a big grin.
– A week? Al-hamdulellah… But please, before that don’t forget to emphasise the name of the mosque in gold. It is not that visible from the other side of the main road.
the contractor takes a look at the name engraved in marble and says, That can be fixed easily Sir!
– Beautiful, he says, you know, the name is very dear to me.
– Of course Sir. May Allah bless his soul!
As he prepares to get into the backseat of his Mercedes, he thanks the contractor and shakes hands with him… the contractor can’t see what’s on his hands… only those who know can see it…
He is drifting in his thoughts while being driven to his office… “Nothing could be more perfect than these moments… In a week, people will fill this mosque.. That’s why I built it on the main road.. So it can be accessible to everyone… My grandfather never lived to realise this dream.. Building the empire took a lot of his time and energy.. He worked so hard and all his work has bore fruit.. Our family is one of the well known and respected in the country.. Look at us now grandpa, not only we have multiple companies and factories.. We finally have built a house of God… A mosque in your name grand-dad.. People will read your name engraved in gold and pray for your soul”… He wipes away the tears and mutters, “what an honour..what an honour”!
In the office, he removes a velvet cloth tied together with a silk ribbon, revealing a wooden box.. That’s his expensive Chinese tea, which he found effective in curbing cigarette cravings.. He stopped smoking about two months ago when he heard a sheikh saying it is haram because it is self-harm..
The phone rings.. Must be someone important because only a few know his direct number…
-Aaaah… Lord… How are you? Long time!!
– I’ve been busy… You know how it is! Listen.. I just want to let you know that we received the cargo.
– Ahaaa… great..great….What do you think?
– It’s good shit man… Good shit!! The SR-25 ‘s are all in good shape and man they are precise!
– And your special M240?
-Ooooh… I love that baby..HAHAHAHA… Thank you man, thank you!
– “I always choose the best!”, he says assertively.
– For sure man, for sure…. I will be happy to host you soon.. You just tell me when you want to come and I’ll take care of everything as I always do!
– Soon, my friend.. Soon!
– Anytime you want.. hehehe.. Anyways, I have to go now.. I gave the money to Prince.
– Well, catch you later!!
He doesn’t waste his time to call Prince.. The usual.. Prince will deposit the money through the perfume factory account after taking his 10% share…. Prince knows.. He knows about the blood dripping from his hands.. he knows about the pierced innocent bodies and the burning flesh…But his 10% will ensure he buys that great farm from its bankrupt owner.. He will fill it with crops and start a fruit business.. How does that hurt anybody?
Hundreds of miles away in a small country ravaged by civil war ,that won’t make it to the news tonight, no one is left to mourn a toddler who was killed when a pro government militia stormed the refugee camp to restore order……
